Angel Di Maria: Cristiano Ronaldo's advice convinced me to sign for Manchester United
Angel Di Maria has revealed the advice from Cristiano Ronaldo which led to him joining Manchester United.
The Argentine completed a British record switch to Old Trafford in the summer having found himself surplus to requirements at Real Madrid.
And he has revealed how his former team-mate helped him make a decision on his next move.
Di Maria told club magazine Inside United: "Before we knew I was coming to Manchester for sure, he told me it was a massive club and that I would be very happy here and it would be good for me.
"At that time, we didn’t know for sure that I was coming or not, so we didn’t go into great detail, but what he did say helped me greatly to make my decision.
“It was a very big moment in my career. Leaving a club like Real and coming to as big a club as Manchester United makes you grow as a player and helps you progress in your career.
"It was a very important moment and I’m really happy here. Let’s hope things go well for me so I can be here for many years."
Di Maria will be at Old Trafford on Tuesday night as Argentina take on Portugal - and his close friend Ronaldo.
The Ballon d'Or holder will seek peace talks with Lionel Messi ahead of the friendly showdown.
The world’s two best players have had a strained relationship down the years.
But Ronaldo has been angered by suggestions in Spain that he uses an obscene name when referring to the Barcelona star in the privacy of the Real Madrid dressing room.
