Liverpool announce Daniel Sturridge thigh injury is NEW and striker could be out until 2015
Liverpool have been rocked by the news star striker Daniel Sturridge could be out until 2015.
The striker limped out of training on Tuesday just days before he was set to make his long-awaited return from a lengthy layoff with a thigh injury this weekend.
Early suggestions were that the England forward had aggravated an old strain picked up on international duty earlier this season but scans on Wednesday have confirmed the injury is in fact a new one.
Liverpool published the news in a statement on their official website: "Liverpool Football Club today confirmed scans have revealed Daniel Sturridge has sustained a new thigh injury.
"The player will remain unavailable for selection but will be monitored and assessed during his recovery."
It is feared the 25-year-old will miss six weeks.
The news will come as a hammer blow to the Reds' Champions League hopes as well as all but ending their slim-looking title hopes.

Liverpool have struggled badly for goals in Sturridge's absence with Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini not managing a single league strike between them.
Brendan Rodgers' side, sitting 11th in the Premier League, head to Crystal Palace this weekend.
